CARE & WELFARE : Providing Support
Our support staff are recruited on the basis of their skills and experience in working with children, and their ability to establish positive and understanding relationships with those in their care. The New School is an independent school but is registered with and regulated by The Care Commission. As such we are inspected twice a year and the reports are made available to all parents, pupils and funding authorities.
Some children will require a high level of support and this will be reflected in their Care Plans. Others may need just gentle nudges and reminders from time to time to stay on track.
Specialist social skills training is sometimes appropriate in order that a child can achieve a higher level of integration in the school community, but more often than not a happy child will achieve this independently, and the role of the care team is to ensure that the boys and girls feel safe, comfortable and secure in the School environment. This can often be achieved by making sure that the environment is right, rather than the child.
