At The New School, we do things differently. We offer a distinct, dynamic curriculum which aims to help our pupils to become confident, thoughtful learners, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and work.
We’re proud to support young people with a range of additional support needs who have been unable to flourish within mainstream education. The majority of students at The New School have a diagnosis of a condition which has created barriers to their social, emotional and educational development. Many of our students are on the autistic spectrum. Small classes, experienced teachers, care staff, therapists and a caring environment help children to learn and build self-confidence. It is a truly inclusive school.
For many of our students it is the first time they have been able to make friends.
We prepare students well for next steps in their life by making them aware of their strengths and ways to overcome their difficulties so they are able to be as independent and achieving as possible.
At The New School we have adopted the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach, with the intention of improving outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of our young people. We do this by working closely with each of our students, their families and other professionals to ensure our young people are given the best opportunity to achieve an independent and fulfilled future beyond school.
