Learning and Activities

During the school day you will have a timetable of classes to go to. The Explorers and Juniors classes have a wide selection of classes so students can see which subjects they enjoy most when the tine comes to chose subjects for exams. You will have a chance to do English, Maths, IT, Home Economics, Music, PE, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Drama, PSHE, RE and Horticulture. All classes also have group Speech and Language therapy.

You can gain qualifications up to Highers at The New School and also ASDAN qualifications which are life skills based.

At the New School we do the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme which includes community work and expeditions.

Older students live down at the Lodge where they learn to budget, cook and do their laundry.

There are so many activities at the New School it would be impossible to list them all! There are weekly trips out such as swimming or cinema, sometimes  friends go down to the village for a hot chocolate. We have a football team and a netball team. When the weather is good there are walks and cycling. We have a choir and band and you can learn to play an instrument. We put on two plays a year if you enjoy Drama. Tennis, cooking, arts and crafts, astronomy, computer time......you will never be bored!
