TNS Film Project With Mark Cousins

On Monday January 19, The New School had a very exciting and inspirational visit from renowned Director/ Presenter/ Film critic Mark Cousins (The Story of Film: An Odyssey, Here Be Dragons) with the proposal of capturing the essence of what typically happens at TNS .  He set the challenge of getting the students to provide the majority of footage which will be used to promote our school and give others a sneak peek at what “makes us tick”.

The students are to be given video cameras and asked to film whatever they want over the next couple of months.  This could be them hanging out with their friends, taking part in their favourite activities, talking about their dreams and even looking at what they enjoy in the classroom.  The resulting footage will then be edited to produce an insight into the everyday life of a “typical”, if there is such a thing, New School student.

When completed, this “short videography” will act as an idea of what potential students, or their parents/ carers and other interested parties can expect when visiting The New School as this will reflect the viewpoint of young people whose lives have been transformed since coming here.  Lives which were once unable to cope, from one day to the next, in a mainstream setting and who are now able to thrive, to live, to flourish in an environment which encourages them to find themselves and be who they are with no unnecessary pressures or judgements.
