Ethos

The New School, founded in 1992, supports young people with a range of additional support needs who have been unable to flourish within mainstream education.  The majority of students at The New School have a diagnosis of a condition which has created barriers to their social, emotional and educational development.  Many of our students are on the autistic spectrum.  Small classes, experienced teachers, care staff, therapists and a caring environment help children to learn and build self-confidence. It is a truly inclusive school.

Small classes (with an average of four children), experienced teachers and care staff, and a supportive atmosphere, help to fostering relationships which enable the children to build their own self confidence and support each other. For many of our students it is the first time they have been able to make friends.

We prepare students well for next steps in their life by making them aware of their strengths and ways to overcome their difficulties so they are able to be as independent and achieving as possible.

Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), it is what we try to do for each of our students by working with families and other professionals to get our students on track for an independent and fulfilled future beyond school.
